MyPATH in the community

Over the weekend we took the precautionary measure of suspending our MyPATH day options program at the Brighton site.

This was a difficult decision but was made among a number of precautionary measures, based on the advice and guidance of health authorities.

Our Lifestyle Services team led by Dale Govett immediately swung into action to begin implementing day options in home-based and community settings.

At Blackwood, we have established a small program at Homestead Cottage for a small number of clients who receive one-on-one support.

This program is supporting families who need to keep working and clients who need high level support so that families and clients can maintain normal routines where possible.

These clients are enjoying activities they are already used to with our support staff, such as home skills, going for walks and bike rides.

We would like to say a special thank you to staff members Dan, Yasmin, Sam, Roshan, Nicki and Zenna who are the team working up at Homestead and have been tremendous in getting this service up and running in such a short timeframe.

Meanwhile, Mellanie Patfull and Michael Charlton have been working on community-based programs for MyPATH clients and families.

From Monday (March 23), MyPATH will start delivering small group outings for day options clients.

These outings will involve picking up clients from their homes and heading out for activities such as bush walks, picnics in parks and to less-busy beaches. This will ensure only small groups are heading to less populated areas, but our clients can still enjoy the benefits of connection and activity during this time.

One-on-one in-home activities will also start next week.

Dale, Mel, Michael and the MyPATH team are working with families individually to do what they can to meet people’s needs. Families have been contacted, but MyPATH clients and families who need further assistance can phone (08) 7077 1113 (MyPATH only for this number).
