MINDA‘S MASTER PLAN

Following the mid-year Association Meeting held on Tuesday 22 June, the Minda Association has voted and endorsed the Board’s proposed Master Plan for the Brighton site.

The process has been comprehensive, with some additional time required whilst Minda’s service delivery model was re-examined in light of the Board’s commitment to the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The Board is confident that this is the right model going forward and is committed to ensuring the sustainable future of the Brighton site. Many of the existing facilities on site, including client accommodation, were built over fifty years ago and are outdated for the provision of high quality care. The Master Plan allows for the delivery of new purpose built housing and facilities of the highest standards.

Currently, only 11 per cent of the 28 hectare site has been built on. The proposed plan will only increase the area of land built on to 14 per cent, which we believe adequately retains extensive open space at the site.

At the heart of the plan is Minda’s commitment to providing the best possible accommodation, care and support to the 1,500 individuals with an intellectual disability who are reliant on Minda for their ongoing quality of life.

It must be reiterated that the endorsed Master Plan is a high level plan only and the Board now looks forward to developing a more detailed plan. During the development of these plans, the Board will be mindful of the input provided throughout the consultation phase.
