Special Olympics is an international organisation dedicated to empowering individuals with an intellectual disability to become physically fit, productive and respected members of their community through sports training and competition. It is an international program of sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults living with intellectual disability.
Special Olympics is founded on the belief that people with an intellectual disability can, with proper instruction and encouragement, learn, enjoy and benefit from participation in individual and team sports in an environment that focuses on the athletes abilities rather than their disabilities.
More than a single event, Special Olympics South Australia provides sporting activities and local competitions for children and adults in South Australia living with intellectual disability throughout the year.
