Throughout the years, Professor Richard Bruggemann has collaborated with Minda in various capacities by being the channel for the organisation's funding from the State Government, developing training resources and, most recently, working on the Life Span project that examined the prevalence of mental illness in people with intellectual disability. He is also a member of the Minda Association and the Family, Service and Research Committee.

Richard brings 30 years of experience in the disability sector and passionately believes in the capacity of people with intellectual disability to contribute to society. He was the Chief Executive Officer of the Intellectual Disability Services Council (IDSC), a position he held from 1984 until 2006, when he joined Flinders University as a Professional Fellow of the Department of Disability Studies.

Richard has served as the President of the National Association for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN SA) and is Director and Honorary Treasurer on the National Council on Intellectual Disability. He is the President of the South Australian Sport and Recreation Society for People with Integration Difficulties (SASRAPID) and the Chair of the Seniors Information Service. Richard also serves on various boards in the health and disability sector.

In 2008/09, Richard developed and ran the Graduate Certificate in Disability Studies (Leadership) at Flinders University and undertook a consultancy for the Victorian Government, examining the implementation of the Victorian Disability Act 2006.

By joining the Minda Board, he hopes to contribute to the philosophy of putting the individual at the focus of Minda's activities, and help Minda to become the leading organisation supporting people with intellectual disabilities in Australia.
